What is powder snow?

It refers to extremely fresh & soft snow formed by tiny flakes on the mountains waiting for someone to come along and break it in for the day. Often packed in thick layers which forms a “pillow” for any crashes, some say it feels like one’s gliding on the moon as you ski/snowboard through. Push yourself to learn the basics or even work on a new trick!

Remember to look out for rocks, crevasses and tree stumps even though the snow is thick, wonderful and sublime.

Are there any other activities other than skiing/snowboarding?

Stay toasty during the winter with the countless hot springs available! If you do not have enough time to visit a full-body hot spring, your weary feet might also appreciate a little break from all the trekking and exploring by soaking them in an ashiyu or public foot bath where most are free to use. Some villages even have their special onsen areas reserved for cooking eggs and rice!
